This Week… 2/52

How has your week been? Ours has been warming up, there is a hint of spring in the air. The days are becoming longer and the warm winter sun has been shining invitingly.

Did you notice the ‘Daily Musings‘ in the side menu? This week I have been sharing some of our everyday moments with simple photos. Here they are all together:

1: Playing together with natural wood blocks. It’s important for me to capture and cherish these moments; Jack has been having a little difficulty lately sharing his space and our toys with Sarah. Moments like these remind me that this difficulty will pass.

2. I simply can’t resist tiny things. Here a new mortar & pestle and yoghurt bowl for Sarah.

3. I’ve given Jack some dedicated alone time, a time for him to work on whatever activity takes his interest. This means I have separated Jack and Sarah’s nap time but I thought it was important for Jack to have some quiet time to focus without interruption.

4. A new hand-knitted cardigan for Sarah – Thanks Mum xx

5. The first thing Jack does in the morning after his chores….and the last thing before dinner.

6. Oh how we love the light panel…

7. Enjoying the warm morning sun.

8. A little bit of Montessori math. Jack is really starting to become interested in numbers and counting.

9. Sarah is quite different to Jack, very energetic and always on the go. This photo is quite a rare moment; Sarah sitting and drawing with crayons.

10. Our pink peppermint playdough is still a daily favourite.

11. Jack starts preschool tomorrow! We went shopping on the weekend for a new backpack. I love that he chose this one. He was quite adamant about this particular one. I really hope that his first day goes well…

12. A little project for me today. I really couldn’t believe how easy these were to make. No more tiny crayon stubs…

  1. Your little ones are so sweet. It looks like you had a truly lovely week. I am interested to see more of your crayons in the last photo, they look beautiful. And I love the photo of Jack in the third picture, he looks like he is really concentrating and enjoying painting.

These photos are beautiful. I like seeing simple things people do during the day. Makes me feel good about our family and our life, that there is beauty in even the smallest moment, like playing in the morning sun.

I hope you do this again next week.

  2. I am also intrigued by those ‘crayons’. did you melt them in muffin tins? what a fantastic idea! I am the Toddlers team leader in a Reggio inspired centre in Perth. I have been so inspired by your amazing page I have pretty much decided I want to home school my children (when I have them).Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

    • Hi Kate 😀
How wonderful to work in a Reggio-inspired centre. Every time I drop Jack off at his preschool I am always inspired by something new. The crayons are so simple to make. I made them in a muffin tin, got rid of all those crayola stubs 🙂 Just break them up and then put them into silicone muffin tin in a low (I think about 120-130 degrees) for about 7-8 minutes. They melt beautifully. Then just wait for them too cool and pop them out. I’m not sure how they would go in a regular tin but they popped straight out of the silicone one no worries. Plus they are now a good size for little hands so no more frustrating breaks when they are drawing 😀

Thanks for coming by. I do love meeting all of you who follow our days.
